Most GLP-1 medications are once-weekly subcutaneous injections. This includes the FDA-approved brand-name semaglutide products Ozempic® and Wegovy®, as well as the brand-name tirzepatide products Mounjaro® and Zepbound®. Rybelsus® is a daily oral semaglutide tablet.

Dose titration means starting at a low dose and gradually increasing over several weeks. The FDA-approved labeling for the brand-name GLP-1 products specifies titration schedules of 4-8 weeks per step to allow the body to adjust and reduce side effects.

Subcutaneously (under the skin) in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Injection sites should be rotated each week.

Per FDA labeling for the brand-name once-weekly GLP-1 products, if a dose is missed and fewer than 5 days have passed, take it as soon as possible. If more than 5 days, skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule.

Per the brand-name product labeling, unused pens are refrigerated at 36-46°F (2-8°C). Once in use, they may be stored at room temperature (up to 86°F/30°C) for up to 56 days. Medication should not be frozen.
